PPE Impact: Standard MIX Lab Face Shield

Standard MIX Lab Face Shield

TLDR: Here are the files to make the Standard PPE MIX Lab Face Shield.

MIX Lab’s Rapid Response to Coronavirus Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic has depleted the inventory of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) leaving our front line medical personnel exposed to infection and catalyzing the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

The MIX Lab is uniquely positioned to assist in the community response to design, prototype and or vet PPE solutions that will assist and protect the brave medical professionals protecting us all.

3D Printing Face Shields

Over the last 10 days, many PPE designs and methods have proliferated across the inter-webs. The most notable solution includes 3D printing face shields for medical professionals to wear. This appears to be a natural fit for MIX Lab’s 3D Printers.

However, those that 3D Print understand it’s a highly inefficient process for mass production and scale. 3D Printing is slow and often, unreliable.

PPE Face Shield

Before 3D printing full steam, the MIX lab took a moment to step back and assess the landscape, possibilities, and alternatives to producing PPEs and physical parts that would assist in the fight against the Coronavirus. We spoke to health care professionals, hospital administrators, and makers to determine needs and what would have the greatest impact on the front lines.

The MIX Lab team is now producing ~2,000 face shields per day using this method.

Daily deliveries are being made to facilities in need, alongside scheduled pickups in our downtown Montclair location.

PPE Face Shield Materials

The list of materials required to make the Open Source Face Shield V1.1 includes an elastic band, a rubber strip, and polycarbonate. 3D Printing is not involved.

Unfortunately, these materials are in high demand and costly. If you have materials or funds to donate to the lab - we have the makers on standby ready to produce them. Please contact us immediately.

A GoFundMe Page has been set up to receive monetary donations.
